Lõuna-Eesti Postimees: The rector of the Estonian Academy of Arts visited to plan the future of the giant Kasemaa painting

August 15, 2025 Lõuna-Eesti Postimees reports (article is behind a paywall):

Only the last part of the Andrus Kasemaa mural “The War of Mahtra” that was in the hall of the Peri Library and Village Center remained on Thursday afternoon, but Hilkka Hiiop, the rector of the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA), who came to inspect the progress of the work, was already discussing with the parties involved what would happen to the painting.

Professor Hiiop had a warning example of what can happen to a work of art if its future fate is not considered during its removal from Tartu. There, a mural by Elmar Kitse was rescued from the restaurant “Tarvas” located in an old department store building that was being demolished and taken to the Estonian National Museum for storage. However, it remained there for ten years.
