On December 8, at 5:00 p.m., a discussion on the exhibition “The Scream of Kalevipoeg. Dream of a Monument” will take place, with Linda Kaljundi, Taavi Hallimäe, Hasso Krull, Maarja Kangro and Gregor Taul participating. The discussion will be introduced by Kirke Kangro.
Through the statue of Kalevipoeg, the need for a symbol of national resilience and identity will be reflected upon. Sculptures have been created of Kalevipoeg, used as a trademark and metaphor, but how much is Kreutzwald’s epic known? Most educated people have read James Joyce’s “Ulysses”. Few have truly completed Homer’s “Odyssey”. But who would dare to say that they know “Kalevipoeg” thoroughly? Whose monument is the Kalevipoeg monument?
Listeners are also welcome to intervene in the joint discussion.
