Everyone is invited to Paide for the closing event of the summer field trip organized as part of the joint EKA (Estonian Academy of Arts) and TLÜ (Tallinn University) course “Monumental Hunt” (Monumentaaljaht), where students will present the results of a nationwide inventory of monumental art.
During the last week of July, students will be working across thirteen Estonian counties to document Soviet-era monumental-decorative art—including mosaics, murals, sgraffitos, stained glass, and other works created for public spaces. At the field conference, they will share their observations, discoveries, and initial conclusions.
In addition to the student presentations, artist Urve Dzidzaria will speak about her own work and experiences as a monumental artist. We will also come together to brainstorm ideas regarding the potential future of the Paide depot premises.
The conference will take place at the former Paide Motor Transport Depot No. 10—a building that also houses Urve Dzidzaria’s recently restored fresco, To Reach the Spring (“Allika juurde jõuda”).
