Yiyang Sun – The Vessel of Idols

From ancient times to the present day, human societies have always sought idols. At times, they were embraced with unwavering faith; at others, they were met with doubt. Yet the vessel of the idol has never stopped transforming — from the wicker figures of folk rituals to the terracotta warriors buried beneath the earth, from bronze statues that never rust to the toys of modern consumerism.

The physical body is no longer essential. What endures—unshaken and eternal—is the gesture: the raised hand, pointing forward, showing the way, assuring us that to follow in the hero’s footsteps is never wrong. But as history moves on, even bronze grows old, and once more, idols are questioned.

It is all part of the cycle.
